Ferozepur: The village of Lakhbir Ke Behram in Ferozepur district is reeling under a drug overdose crisis after three people died on Wednesday from consuming illicit substances. The latest deaths have triggered public outrage, with angry villagers blocking the highway to protest what they call administrative failure.
According to reports, four lives have been lost in the past two days alone, with users injecting narcotic tablets dissolved in water. Once celebrated as a “village of soldiers,” Lakhbir Ke Behram has tragically earned a reputation as a hub of drug addiction, with nearly 85 drug-related deaths recorded over the years.
The recent floods in Ferozepur are suspected to have aggravated the crisis, as large consignments of narcotics entered the market unchecked. Despite the presence of a police station along the busy Ferozepur-Fazilka road, locals allege that authorities have failed to curb the rampant trade.
The highway blockade reflects the mounting anger among residents, who are demanding stronger enforcement, swift crackdowns on traffickers, and urgent steps to protect the youth from falling prey to addiction.
