Amritsar: Union Minister of State for Road Transport Ajay Tamta arrived in Amritsar today to personally inspect the damage caused by recent floods and to evaluate the condition of national highways in the region. His arrival at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport was met by BJP leaders who were on hand to receive him.

Tamta’s first stop was Tarn Taran, where he is scheduled to tour severely affected villages including Munda, Sarhali, and Panjwara—areas that experienced heavy inundation and infrastructural damage. From there, he is to proceed to the Tarn Taran Deputy Commissioner’s Office for a review meeting with officials from the Public Works Department and other state and central agencies. The meeting’s agenda will include assessing flood-related damage and coordinating relief efforts.

Though he will spend the night in Amritsar, today’s focus remains on Tarn Taran. Tamta will later move to the Circuit House in the evening for consultations with senior state BJP leadership. On Wednesday, his itinerary includes a visit to Ajnala in Amritsar and Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur, both of which faced flood devastation. Once his inspections and meetings conclude, he will return to Delhi later that evening.

Tamta’s presence in the region underscores the central government’s effort to fast-track assessments and assistance in flood-hit zones while engaging directly with local officials and residents.
