Patna — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, transferring the first installment of ₹10,000 each to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across the state.

The ₹7,500-crore scheme, spearheaded by Bihar’s NDA government, seeks to boost women’s empowerment through self-employment and livelihood creation. Modi launched the initiative virtually from Delhi, while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, and state ministers participated in the programme via video link from Patna. Large groups of women also joined the event online.

Officials said the scheme will provide financial assistance to one woman from every family for income-generating activities of her choice. Beneficiaries will receive an initial grant of ₹10,000 through direct benefit transfer, with the possibility of further financial aid of up to ₹2 lakh in later phases.

The funds can be invested in agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, weaving, and other small-scale ventures. Beyond cash support, the programme is community-driven—with training provided by self-help group resource persons to guide women in managing their enterprises.

To strengthen market access, the government will also develop Gramin haat bazaars to help women sell their products. The scheme comes ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, adding political significance to the launch.
