New Delhi: French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday commented on U.S. President Donald Trump, stating that if Trump genuinely wants to win the Nobel Peace Prize, he must act to stop the ongoing war in Gaza. Speaking to a French TV channel in New York, Macron emphasized that Trump has the power to influence Israel.
Macron pointed out that the United States holds significant leverage because it supplies Israel with weapons and military equipment, unlike France. “There is one person who can do something about this, and that is the President of the United States,” he said. “America has this power because we do not supply the equipment that enables the war in Gaza. The U.S. does.”
The French President stressed that Trump should use this influence to pressure Israel into halting military operations in Gaza, holding the U.S. responsible for continuing the conflict due to its arms supply.
Meanwhile, Palestine has received recognition as a sovereign state from 157 of the 193 United Nations member countries, representing 81 percent of the global community. It also holds recognition from Catholic Church authorities, including the Holy See and Vatican City, and has non-member observer status at the United Nations. This recognition strengthens Palestine’s position internationally, enhances its ability to hold Israeli authorities accountable for territorial control, and increases pressure on Western powers to work toward a two-state solution.
