Chandigarh: Haryana Energy Minister Anil Vij said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would visit Ambala Cantonment on November 5 to inaugurate the ‘Azadi ki Pehli Ladai ka Shaheed Smarak–1857’. He said a public rally would be held at Gandhi Ground in Ambala Cantt. following the inauguration. He also said that students from all educational institutes in Haryana would be taken to visit the Martyrs’ Memorial at government expense.
Vij said, “I bow in reverence to everyone who took even one step forward in the struggle for India’s freedom. Our objective is to honour all those bravehearts who fought for the country’s independence but whose contributions did not receive the recognition they deserved.”
He added that the flame of freedom ignited by the soldiers of the Revolt of 1857 through their sacrifice of life and blood went on to inspire the country’s subsequent independence movement. The purpose of the Shaheed Memorial, he said, is to preserve this historical legacy and pass on the authentic history of the freedom struggle, along with the stories of sacrifice, to future generations.
