Chandigarh: After several days of largely dry weather, Punjab could see a fresh spell of rain beginning October 28, with thunderstorms and strong winds likely in parts of the state towards the end of the week. The forecast indicates that weather conditions may remain unsettled until October 30, while cooler temperatures during mornings and evenings continue to signal a seasonal shift.
A yellow alert has been issued for the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. Wind speeds could reach 30 to 40 kmph on October 29 and 30, according to the forecast details provided. October 27 is expected to remain dry before conditions begin to change.
The approaching weather disturbance, along with a system described as cyclonic storm ‘Arnab’, is expected to influence conditions across Punjab and neighbouring areas.
Two weather systems likely to affect the region
A cyclonic circulation over northern Haryana, associated with a Western Disturbance, is currently positioned at an altitude of around 3.1 to 4.5 kilometres. Another Western Disturbance is forecast to reach northwestern India from the night of October 27.
These systems could contribute to the expected rain and thunderstorms over the following days. However, the intensity and distribution of rainfall may differ from one district to another.
Weather stations across Punjab and Chandigarh did not report rainfall during the previous 24 hours, and dry conditions continued across the region.
Daytime warmth contrasts with chilly evenings
Despite the possibility of rain, temperatures have remained relatively high during the day. Faridkot recorded a maximum temperature of approximately 33°C, among the highest in the state, while the minimum temperature in Pathankot dropped to 11.7°C.
Chandigarh recorded a high of 31.4°C and a low of 15°C. Amritsar reported 28.5°C during the day and 14.9°C at night.
In Ludhiana, temperatures ranged between 15.6°C and 30.4°C, while Patiala recorded a maximum of 31.4°C and a minimum of 14.7°C.
The sharp difference between daytime highs and nighttime lows is making conditions feel warm under direct sunshine but cooler after sunset and during the early morning hours. Daytime temperatures were reported to have risen marginally.
Thunderstorm alert for the coming days
The expected weather change has put the spotlight on October 29 and 30, when lightning and strong winds could accompany rain in affected areas. People are advised to monitor official meteorological updates, particularly if travelling or planning outdoor activities.
The forecast suggests that Punjab may experience a brief break from the prevailing dry conditions, although the actual impact will depend on how the weather systems develop and move across the region.
