Ottawa: Prime Minister Mark Carney has said Albertans have chosen to remain united with the rest of Canada, describing the results on the separation question as an opportunity for the country to move forward with renewed ambition.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Carney said the October 19 vote reflected Albertans’ preference for unity, collective progress and mutual support. He emphasised that the province had chosen Canada, even as counting continued on other questions.
The prime minister said the outcome would allow Alberta and the wider country to focus on shared priorities and building a stronger future together.
Carney also outlined his government’s broader economic ambitions, pointing to efforts to expand Canada’s international trade partnerships, accelerate major nation-building projects across the country and strengthen its position as a global energy superpower.
He highlighted Alberta’s central role in Canada’s energy future, saying the country’s collective strengths offered significant opportunities for growth and development.
Concluding his statement, Carney said Canada’s strength lies in the combined contributions of its provinces and territories, adding that the country should use its resources and opportunities to improve life for all Canadians.
