Amritsar: Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit in Amritsar has arrested four people and seized 10 kg of heroin in an operation targeting an alleged narcotics smuggling network in Punjab.
According to the police, a preliminary investigation suggests that the accused were in contact with smugglers based abroad and allegedly helped receive and distribute heroin consignments within the state.
An FIR has been registered at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar. Further investigation is underway to identify other suspected members of the network and establish the routes through which the contraband was allegedly transported.
Investigation Underway To Trace Cross-Border Drug Links
Police officials said investigators are examining the suspected network’s forward and backward linkages to determine the source of the heroin, its intended recipients and the possible involvement of other individuals.
The probe is also aimed at identifying the wider supply chain and gathering evidence about the alleged role of foreign-based smugglers.
The seizure of 10 kg of heroin and the arrest of four accused mark the latest action by Punjab Police against suspected narcotics trafficking. However, the allegations against the arrested individuals will be subject to the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the identities of the accused or the precise location where the heroin was recovered.
Punjab Police Intensifies Action Against Drug Trafficking
Punjab Police said it remains committed to disrupting drug trafficking and dismantling organised narcotics networks as part of efforts to combat the drug menace in the state.
The latest operation comes amid continued enforcement action against suspected drug suppliers and cross-border smuggling networks. Investigators are expected to pursue additional leads as they work to establish the full extent of the alleged operation.
Further details may emerge as the investigation progresses and police establish the suspected network’s connections, distribution channels and other possible participants.
