AMRITSAR: Security protocols were intensified around Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar following reports of suspected drone activity in the vicinity. Around 9:00 PM on Sunday, reports indicated the sighting of a drone-like aerial object in a village adjacent to Rajasansi, prompting Air Traffic Control to divert three incoming passenger flights as a precautionary safety measure.
According to flight updates, Air India flight AI-855 operating from Delhi to Amritsar was instructed to turn back and return to Delhi. Similarly, IndiGo flight 6E-5028 arriving from Mumbai was redirected to Chandigarh, while Malaysia Airlines international flight MH-118 from Kuala Lumpur was diverted to Delhi. Security personnel and intelligence agencies have maintained high vigilance across the airport perimeter, and detailed investigations remain underway to ascertain the exact circumstances of the reported movement.
A similar security scare was reported at the airport in September, when suspicious aerial objects were sighted near the operational zone and runway during late-night hours. On that occasion, authorities diverted around seven inbound flights to Delhi and Chandigarh while evaluating potential causes, including unauthorized videography for local sports tournaments. Given the airport’s strategic proximity to the international border, surveillance and counter-drone monitoring across the sector remain heavily reinforced.
