New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has claimed that individuals working within the Election Commission of India (ECI) are now providing him with information about alleged voter fraud in the country.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress headquarters earlier today, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha alleged that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was “protecting vote chors” and aware of the fraudulent deletion and addition of names in voter lists. “We have started getting help from inside the Election Commission. This was not happening before, but now it is, and it won’t stop,” Gandhi said, adding that young voters will not tolerate “vote chori” once they learn the truth.
Citing Karnataka’s Aland Assembly constituency, Gandhi alleged that more than 6,000 votes were fraudulently deleted using software and impersonation. He claimed the fraud came to light only when a Booth Level Officer noticed her uncle’s name missing from the rolls. The Congress leader also referred to earlier instances in Mahadevpura, Karnataka, where he alleged similar irregularities.
“In election after election, communities voting for the Opposition—Dalits, OBCs, Adivasis, minorities—are being systematically targeted for deletions. We now have 100 percent proof of this,” Gandhi asserted, insisting that his claims were backed by verifiable evidence.
The Congress party has previously accused the ECI of colluding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to manipulate voter lists in states including Karnataka and Maharashtra. Gandhi reiterated that fraudulent deletions were part of a broader pattern designed to suppress opposition votes.
The Election Commission, responding to his allegations, asked the Congress leader to submit evidence in the form of an affidavit. The poll panel also held its own press conference, addressing concerns related to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision in Bihar and other states.
