Mumbai: Four residents of Mumbai were killed on the spot after their car crashed into a stationary dumper on the Bharatmala Expressway in Gujarat’s Surat district on Friday morning, police said.
The fatal collision occurred around 8:00 a.m. near Dhatva village in the Kamrej taluka. Kamrej police station inspector R. B. Gojiya confirmed that the Maharashtra-registered vehicle was travelling from Mumbai toward Delhi when the crash took place. The four occupants were on their way to the Sankheshwar Jain pilgrimage site located in the Patan district of Gujarat.
According to police officials, the car was suspected to be speeding when it violently rammed into the rear of a dumper truck parked in the fifth lane of the expressway. The force of the impact was so severe that the front section of the vehicle was completely crushed, resulting in the instantaneous death of all four occupants.
The deceased have been identified as Rajiv Jain, Jayanti Doshi, Pravin Jain, and Sanjay Khemchand, all aged between 35 and 40 years. Inspector Gojiya noted that Rajiv Jain, who originally hailed from Rajasthan, operated a jewellery business in Mumbai. Emergency teams were dispatched to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow, while police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the crash.
