Amritsar: A 25-year-old delivery worker was gunned down late Thursday night in Amritsar, barely 50 paces from the Kot Khalsa police post under the Islamabad police station jurisdiction. The victim, identified as Sahil Gill, was employed with food delivery platform Zomato. The fatal shooting took place around 10:50 PM just steps away from his residence, sparking widespread outrage over public safety and policing efficiency in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, two unidentified assailants arrived on a scooter and confronted Gill while he was out purchasing vegetables for his home. The attackers discharged two rounds at close range, with one bullet striking Gill directly in the chest. The suspects immediately fled the scene before local authorities stationed nearby could respond.
Neighbours alerted Gill’s family after finding him collapsed on the road. Relatives rushed him to a nearby private hospital for emergency treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission. The victim’s father, Mukhtiar Singh, stated that his son had married approximately two years ago and is survived by his wife and a six-month-old infant.
Senior police officials, including an Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Station House Officer of Islamabad police station, arrived at the crime scene to commence a formal investigation. Forensic teams are currently retrieving and reviewing footage from surveillance cameras installed across the neighborhood to map the assailants’ escape route and establish their identities. Authorities confirmed that an active search operation is underway to track down and apprehend the suspects.
