FAZILKA — A low-intensity explosion inside the premises of the Jalalabad City Police Station in Punjab’s Fazilka district triggered panic across the border town in the early hours of Sunday.
The blast occurred around 2:00 AM near the main gate on the police station premises. While no casualties or injuries were reported, the impact of the explosion shattered the windowpanes of multiple vehicles impounded in criminal cases parked inside the compound.
Forensic Teams Probe Blast Site as Police Rule Out Outside Intrusion
Senior police officials, including Fazilka Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Satinder Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police Gagan Ajit Singh, rushed to the scene to secure the area and restrict access into the station.
A specialized forensic team from Bathinda was dispatched to collect explosive residue and physical samples from the site to determine the nature and source of the blast.
While preliminary speculation raised concerns of a potential grenade attack, police officials have refrained from confirming the exact device used, pending forensic analysis.
Investigating officers noted that the main gates of the police station were closed at the time of the incident, making an outside physical intrusion unlikely. CCTV footage from surrounding areas in the heart of the town is currently under review.
Police officials also clarified that most station personnel were deployed across different parts of Jalalabad at the time due to local public demonstrations regarding power outages. Authorities have appealed to the public not to pay attention to unverified rumors and to maintain peace while the investigation progresses.
