Dehradun: Torrential rain following a cloudburst on the outskirts of Dehradun wreaked havoc in the Sahastradhara region on Tuesday, triggering sudden flash floods and landslides.
The force of the downpour washed away vehicles, damaged several homes and shops, and left roads in a crumbled state. Authorities confirmed that at least two people have gone missing since the incident, sparking urgent rescue efforts.
Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed to carry out search operations and assist residents in the affected stretches. Officials said continuous monitoring is underway as the situation remains sensitive.
The latest disaster comes on the heels of a similar tragedy in Uttarkashi’s Dharali area on August 5, when a cloudburst led to deadly flash floods and landslides. That incident claimed multiple lives, displaced several families, and left major roads and local businesses in ruins.
Residents in Dehradun recalled the terrifying sound of gushing water late at night, describing scenes of panic as people rushed to safer areas. Local administration has advised caution in vulnerable zones and urged people to avoid venturing near riverbanks or unstable slopes.
With monsoon showers persisting across Uttarakhand, officials say further precautionary measures are being taken to minimize risks and safeguard those living in low-lying areas.
