HOSHIARPUR — A retired teacher serving as a village nambardar was brutally murdered allegedly by his nephew following a domestic dispute in the Hajipur area of Hoshiarpur district on Sunday evening. The deceased, identified as Mohinder Singh, sustained catastrophic injuries after being ambushed with a sharp-edged weapon right outside his residence in Mohalla Padda.
According to preliminary reports, Singh was standing outside his home when the suspect arrived and launched an unprovoked, violent assault. The assailant repeatedly struck the victim across the neck and face with the edged weapon, leaving him profusely bleeding on the street before fleeing the scene. Relatives and local residents rushed the critically injured victim to the Civil Hospital in Hajipur, where attending medical staff pronounced him dead on arrival.
A police contingent led by Hajipur Station House Officer Harprem Singh arrived at the crime scene shortly after receiving the alert to cordon off the area, collect forensic evidence, and record statements from eyewitnesses and neighbours. Authorities suspect an ongoing family grievance triggered the fatal confrontation, though investigators noted that a definitive motive will be established as the formal probe progresses. Based on the testimony of the victim’s family, law enforcement has registered an official case against the accused and initiated search operations to apprehend him.
