Washington: US President Donald Trump has stepped up his rhetoric against Iran, describing the country as a “failed nation” while warning that Washington would continue taking firm action against Tehran.
Speaking on the ongoing tensions involving Iran, Trump said that Iran’s current situation would not prevent the United States from responding forcefully when necessary.
Trump also highlighted the Strait of Hormuz, saying the strategically important waterway was in “extremely good shape”. His remarks come amid heightened concerns over shipping and security in the region.
Trump Reiterates Stand on Iran’s Nuclear Programme
The US president also made clear that Washington would not accept Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Trump linked the issue to Israel’s security, arguing that a nuclear-armed Iran would pose an existential threat to the country. He said Iran must therefore be prevented from developing such a capability.
His comments come against the backdrop of continuing tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel, with the possibility of further military escalation remaining a major concern.
Strait of Hormuz Remains Key Concern
Trump’s remarks on the Strait of Hormuz are significant because the waterway is a crucial route for international energy shipments. Any prolonged disruption in the area could have consequences for global oil supplies and prices.
The US administration has continued to focus on maintaining security around the strait while applying pressure on Tehran.
