New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela and former MP Mimi Chakraborty in connection with its ongoing investigation into the illegal betting app 1xBet. Both have been asked to appear before the agency’s Delhi headquarters on September 16.
The case revolves around suspected money laundering through online betting platforms that allegedly used surrogate advertisements and collected funds from users through multiple digital channels.
Last week, the ED questioned Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan as part of the same probe. Former cricketer Suresh Raina was also examined by the agency last month. Investigators are focusing on the involvement of celebrities, the nature of their endorsements, payments received, and communication methods with the betting entities.
In addition to celebrities, the agency has also summoned representatives from Google and Meta to understand the platforms’ role in hosting or promoting such advertisements.
The probe is part of the ED’s wider crackdown on online betting networks and their financial links in India.
