New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has dismantled two illegal call centres in Nashik that were allegedly duping UK nationals by posing as insurance agents and government officials. The centres, operating under the name Swagan Business Solutions Pvt Ltd, tricked victims into paying for non-existent insurance policies, officials said on Sunday.
The CBI arrested Ganesh and Shyam Kamankar for their alleged role in running the fraudulent operations. A case has been filed against them, two other private individuals, unidentified public servants, and other associates.
According to the agency, around 60 employees worked at the call centres, which used Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, spoofed phone numbers, and forged documents to convince victims to share debit and credit card details. The fraud proceeds were routed through PayPal accounts and regular banking channels.
“CBI searches at multiple locations in Nashik and Kalyan (Thane) led to the recovery of incriminating digital evidence, including databases of victims, fake insurance scripts, eight mobile phones, eight computers and servers, as well as unexplained cash worth ₹5 lakh,” a spokesperson said.
The arrested accused have been remanded in CBI custody until Monday, while further investigations are underway to identify others involved and track the flow of money.
