New Delhi: The Centre on Thursday took possession of the Delhi Race Club premises after the Delhi High Court declined to interfere with the eviction proceedings, clearing the way for the government to assume control of the property.
The development follows the rejection of the club’s challenge to the eviction process initiated against it. Earlier, on August 25, a Delhi court had refused to stay the eviction order passed by the Estate Officer against the Delhi Race Club. According to the court, the club had been provided multiple opportunities to present its case and file a response but failed to do so.
Court Refuses To Halt Delhi Race Club Eviction
While considering the matter, the court noted that the Estate Officer had provided the Delhi Race Club with a copy of the plaint filed by the Union of India. The club was also given sufficient time to submit its reply. However, it failed to file a response for “reasons best known” to it. With the court refusing to grant relief against the eviction proceedings, the Centre moved ahead with taking possession of the premises on Thursday.

The takeover marks a significant development in the dispute over the Delhi Race Club premises, with the Centre now assuming possession of the property following the legal proceedings. The action was carried out after the club failed to secure a stay against the eviction order.
