SHIMLA: Governor Kavinder Gupta today emphasised the need to preserve, promote and modernise Sanskrit as a living language and a vital repository of India’s knowledge, cultural heritage and civilisational ethos.

Addressing the concluding ceremony of Sanskrit Mass-2026, organised by the Shri Kailakh Jyotish and Vedic Sansthan Trust in Jammu, the Governor said Sanskrit should not be viewed merely as a language of the past, but as a powerful knowledge tradition with contemporary relevance in education, research, technology and global discourse.

The Governor said Sanskrit has played a unique role in connecting different regions of India through a shared intellectual and cultural heritage. From the Vedic traditions of the north to those of the south, Sanskrit has served as a common thread of India’s civilisational unity and embodies the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.

He appreciated the efforts of the Shri Kailakh Jyotish and Vedic Sansthan Trust for taking Sanskrit beyond the confines of traditional scholarship and connecting it with society through a range of activities.

The Governor highlighted the importance accorded to Indian languages and knowledge traditions under the National Education Policy-2020 and said universities, researchers and institutions associated with Sanskrit could play a significant role in taking this knowledge tradition into the digital age.
