Chandigarh: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for parts of Punjab as the monsoon remains active across the state. Several districts have already witnessed rain, cloudy skies and gusty winds, with more showers expected over the next few days.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh, rainfall is likely at several places on Wednesday. A yellow warning for heavy rain has also been issued for August 14 and 15, indicating the possibility of intense spells in some areas.

Pathankot Records 46 mm Rainfall

Rain was recorded in several parts of Punjab during the past 24 hours. Pathankot received the highest rainfall at 46 mm, with the maximum recorded at the Thein Dam area.

Other rainfall figures included 18 mm at KVK Pathankot, 5.5 mm at Bhakra Dam in Rupnagar and 1 mm in Mohali.

Rain was also reported in Chandigarh. The city recorded 2.5 mm, while the Chandigarh airport received around 4.2 mm of rainfall.

The change in weather conditions also brought down temperatures across the state. Punjab’s average maximum temperature fell by approximately 2.5°C compared with the previous day and remained around 2.8°C below normal.

More Rain Expected In Punjab

The Chandigarh Meteorological Centre has attributed the ongoing rainfall activity to an active monsoon system over the region.

A low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh is contributing to the movement of moisture-laden winds towards Punjab. These conditions are expected to result in light to moderate rainfall across several parts of the state.

Some locations could also experience heavier showers and intermittent spells of rain, particularly during periods of stronger weather activity.

Weather To Remain Unsettled Over Coming Days

With the monsoon remaining active, weather conditions across Punjab and Chandigarh are expected to remain unsettled. Cloudy skies, rainfall and gusty winds may continue in different parts of the region.

The yellow warning for August 14 and 15 means residents should remain cautious in areas vulnerable to waterlogging, particularly if heavy showers occur over a short period.

The weather department is expected to continue monitoring the monsoon system and issue further updates depending on how the conditions develop.
