New Delhi: The Indian Embassy premises in Slovenia were defaced by anti-India elements, prompting a firm diplomatic response from India’s Ministry of External Affairs on Monday. Condemning the act of vandalism, the ministry called upon Slovenian law enforcement authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice.
In an official statement, the ministry emphasized that under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, foreign diplomatic premises are strictly inviolable and host nations carry an obligation to ensure their complete protection. The MEA confirmed that the matter has been lodged strongly with Slovenian officials in both New Delhi and Ljubljana, while also urging action against coordinated hate propaganda and disinformation campaigns targeting India.
The incident occurred despite active high-level bilateral engagements between the two nations in recent months. Indian Ambassador to Slovenia Amit Narang had met Slovenia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tone Kajzer last month to advance trade and diplomatic relations, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s congratulatory message to Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa upon his election. Indian officials reiterated the necessity of ensuring a secure environment for diplomatic missions as both countries continue working toward expanding bilateral cooperation.
