New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj has alleged a massive Rs 22,000 crore scam involving the illegal diversion of heavily subsidised rice intended for impoverished residents in the national capital. Speaking on Sunday, Bharadwaj claimed that a corporation based in Assam along with the Delhi administration submitted formal requests to the Food Corporation of India to secure substantial allocations of subsidised foodgrains, purportedly for local distribution among poor families.

According to details shared by the AAP leader, the formal request demanded 31,000 metric tonnes of rice per week under the pretext of aiding vulnerable populations. However, Bharadwaj alleged that the subsidised grain never reached a single poor household and was instead siphoned off and sold to a private company in Haryana to generate heavy profits. He asserted that the arrangement amounted to an estimated fraud of Rs 143 crore per week and was planned to operate over a three-year timeframe, culminating in a total financial loss of Rs 22,000 crore.

In a separate administrative matter raised earlier in the week, Bharadwaj accompanied fellow party leaders Sanjeev Jha and Kuldeep Kumar to meet Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar. During the meeting, the delegation expressed deep concern over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, alleging that genuine voters residing in villages and informal housing clusters were being mistakenly marked as shifted and removed from voter lists without receiving enumeration forms.
