Shimla: Monsoon activity has weakened across Himachal Pradesh over the past week, resulting in below-normal rainfall in several districts. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state recorded a 13 per cent rainfall deficit during the last seven days, although intermittent showers are expected to continue over the coming week.
Among the worst-affected regions, Lahaul-Spiti reported an 87 per cent shortfall in rainfall compared to normal levels. Other districts also witnessed below-average precipitation, including Hamirpur (45%), Solan (30%), Mandi (23%), Chamba (21%), Kangra (13%) and Shimla (9%).
However, a few districts bucked the trend, with Sirmaur receiving 66 per cent above-normal rainfall, followed by Una (42%), Bilaspur (40%) and Kinnaur (26%), reflecting uneven monsoon distribution across the state.
Rain Likely to Continue Till August 11
Despite the recent weakening of the monsoon, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall in different parts of Himachal Pradesh until August 11. The department has also warned of heavy showers at isolated locations on August 6, 9, 10 and 11, while more widespread rainfall is expected on August 7 and 8.
Authorities have issued a Yellow Alert for select districts, advising residents to remain cautious, especially in areas vulnerable to landslides and flash floods.
Temperatures to Remain Stable
The weather office has indicated that there is unlikely to be any major change in daytime or night-time temperatures over the next four to five days. Both maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain close to seasonal averages.
Public Advised to Remain Vigilant
With rainfall expected to persist in parts of the state, the IMD has urged people to avoid unnecessary travel through landslide-prone routes and stay away from rivers, streams and other vulnerable locations during periods of heavy rain. Residents have also been advised to follow official weather bulletins and local administration advisories to ensure their safety.
