New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, along with former WFI secretary Vinod Tomar, in the sexual harassment case filed by several women wrestlers.
The order was delivered by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwini Panwar at the Rouse Avenue Courts after the completion of trial proceedings. The judgment followed extensive arguments presented by the prosecution, the complainants and the defence. The hearings were conducted in camera due to the nature of the allegations.
Both Singh, the former MP from Kaiserganj, and Tomar appeared before the court when the verdict was pronounced.
The court had reserved its decision after concluding final arguments on July 2, 2026. The case, which first came to public attention in January 2023, remained before the court for more than three years. During that period, the matter saw 127 hearings spread across 1,133 days.
Earlier, in May 2024, the trial court had framed charges against Singh under provisions of the Indian Penal Code in connection with allegations made by five complainants, while discharging him in relation to one complainant. Tomar had been charged only with criminal intimidation concerning one complainant.
Throughout the judicial process, both accused were granted bail and remained out of custody. With Monday’s ruling, the trial concluded with the acquittal of both Singh and Tomar, bringing an end to one of the most closely watched legal cases involving Indian wrestling in recent years.
