Chandigarh: A fresh spell of monsoon activity is expected to impact Punjab and Chandigarh over the next two days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. A Yellow Alert has been issued for August 3 and 4, warning of heavy rain in several areas.
The weather department has advised residents to remain vigilant during adverse weather conditions, avoid venturing into waterlogged areas and stay away from open spaces during lightning and thunderstorms.
According to the forecast, rainfall is likely to continue on August 5 and 6 across most parts of the region. However, while showers are expected to persist, the possibility of heavy rainfall is comparatively lower during this period. The precipitation is likely to bring down daytime temperatures and provide much-needed relief from the prevailing humid conditions.
Chandigarh Continues to Experience Humid Weather
Despite cloudy conditions, Chandigarh remained warm on Sunday. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2°C, around 2 degrees above the seasonal average, while the minimum temperature settled at 27.4°C, which was also slightly above normal. Only a trace amount of rainfall was recorded during the previous 24 hours.
Bathinda Records Highest Temperature in Punjab
Across Punjab, temperatures continued to remain above normal before the expected change in weather. Bathinda emerged as the hottest city in the state with a maximum temperature of 36.5°C.
Other major cities also witnessed warm conditions, with Patiala recording 35.4°C, Amritsar 35.1°C, and Ludhiana 35.0°C. While most districts experienced dry weather, Nangal received 22.5 mm of rainfall and Barnala recorded 2 mm during the last 24 hours.
Relief Expected, But Caution Advised
Meteorologists believe the approaching spell of rain will help reduce temperatures and ease the discomfort caused by persistent heat and humidity. At the same time, they have cautioned that intense showers could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas and disrupt traffic movement in some locations.
Residents have been urged to monitor official weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall and follow advisories issued by local authorities to ensure their safety.
