Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory ahead of the Waris Punjab De march scheduled for Wednesday, urging commuters to avoid key roads connecting Chandigarh and Mohali during the day. Special traffic arrangements will remain in effect from 9:30 a.m. to ensure smooth movement and maintain public safety.
According to the advisory, traffic will be diverted or restricted on several major routes as participants are expected to travel from Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Mohali towards the Punjab Governor’s House in Chandigarh.
One of the affected stretches includes the road from the UT-Mohali border near Burail Jail to the Sector 50/51 roundabout, extending further to the Sector 44/45–50/51 junction (Gaushala Chowk) along Sarovar Path. Restrictions will also be enforced near the Sector 44/45 traffic light point.
Traffic curbs will also apply on Vikas Marg, covering the stretch between ISBT Sector 43 Chowk and Gaushala Chowk, before extending towards the Sector 45-46/49-50 intersection. Vehicles passing through the Sector 43/44 and Sector 45/46 light points may experience diversions and delays.
To minimise congestion, interstate buses heading to ISBT Sector 43 have been advised to use alternate routes during the period of the rally.
Authorities have appealed to residents travelling between Chandigarh and Mohali to plan their journeys in advance, opt for alternative roads wherever possible, and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed along the affected corridors.
The Chandigarh Traffic Police has also advised commuters to stay updated through its official social media platforms for real-time information on diversions, road closures, and traffic conditions throughout the day.
