Punjab University PhD Scholar Dies of Electrocution Near Campus Hostel

Chandigarh: In a tragic incident at Panjab University, a PhD scholar from the Department of Microbiology lost her life due to electrocution on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Jyoti, a resident of Rewari district in Haryana, who was pursuing her doctoral research at the university.

The accident took place on an unpaved pathway adjacent to the road connecting Hostel Number 8 and the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), located near Girls Hostel Number 10 on the campus grounds. According to initial reports, the researcher came into contact with a live electrical source while using the route.

Following the incident, she was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 16 for emergency medical treatment. However, attending doctors at the facility declared her dead on arrival. Local authorities and university officials have been informed, and further details regarding the exact cause of the electrical exposure are awaited as inquiries begin.
