Ludhiana: A religious gathering in Punjab’s Ludhiana district turned tragic after a dispute between two Nihang Singhs allegedly escalated into a fatal attack inside a Gurdwara premises. The incident occurred during celebrations marking Miri-Piri Diwas at Baharla Gurdwara Sahib in Paddi village, under the Dehlon police station limits.
The deceased has been identified as Sonu, while the accused, Sohan Singh, is a resident of Fatehabad district in Haryana. Police have registered a murder case and initiated efforts to trace the accused.
According to the police, the altercation reportedly began near the Gurdwara’s langar hall late on Sunday evening. Preliminary findings suggest that a verbal confrontation between the two men quickly turned violent, during which the accused allegedly attacked Sonu with a kirpan, inflicting a severe injury to his neck.
In his complaint, Gurdwara Granthi Jasvir Singh stated that the concluding ceremony of an Akhand Path Sahib had concluded earlier in the day, attracting a large congregation, including Nihang Singhs from different places. Around 9 p.m., he heard loud arguments and rushed towards the langar area, where he allegedly witnessed the assault.
The injured man was immediately shifted to Sidhu Hospital in Doraha, but doctors declared him dead on arrival after he had suffered excessive blood loss.
Following the incident, Dehlon police reached the spot and began an investigation. Based on the eyewitness account, a case has been registered against Sohan Singh under Section 103 (Murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Investigating officer Inspector Vijay Kumar is leading the probe. The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while police teams are conducting raids to apprehend the accused. Authorities are also examining the circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation inside the religious premises.
