Pathankot: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Pathankot on Tuesday to assess the flood situation in Punjab. His visit comes shortly after his tour of Himachal Pradesh, where he announced ₹1,500 crore in aid for rebuilding efforts following heavy rains, floods, and landslides.

On arrival, the Prime Minister was received by BJP Punjab Mahila Morcha president Jai Inder Kaur, who expressed gratitude for his visit. “It is an honour to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji to Pathankot. His decision to come personally to the flood-affected regions shows his deep concern and commitment. His presence brings courage and reassurance to every citizen of Punjab,” she said.

The Prime Minister is expected to undertake an aerial survey of the flood-ravaged districts to get a ground-level assessment of the damage. After the survey, he will chair a review meeting with state officials and the local administration to discuss immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation measures.

According to sources, the Centre is preparing to announce a financial relief package for Punjab, which may include direct support for affected farmers, livestock rearers, and displaced families. Many of the schemes introduced in Himachal Pradesh—such as geotagging of damaged houses under PM Awas Yojana, educational assistance through the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, and the construction of water recharge structures—are also likely to be extended to Punjab.

The visit is seen as a major step in ensuring rapid recovery and rehabilitation in the flood-affected areas of Punjab.
