Zirakpur: A chartered accountant and his wife died by suicide after jumping into the Bhakra Canal, with their bodies recovered from separate locations across Punjab and Haryana. The deceased were identified as Rajiv Bali, a professional chartered accountant, and his wife Neerja Bali, both residing in Zirakpur within Punjab’s Mohali district.
Local police reported that Rajiv Bali’s body was retrieved from the Bhakra Canal near Rajpura in Punjab. His wife’s body was subsequently spotted and recovered from the Saraswati Feeder Canal near Jyotisar in Kurukshetra, Haryana, situated approximately 80 kilometres downstream from where the couple originally entered the water.
Law enforcement authorities from both states have initiated a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The bodies have been transferred to local healthcare facilities for post-mortem examinations as legal proceedings continue under relevant statutory provisions.
