New Delhi: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju appealed to opposition parties on Friday to allow a formal debate in the Lok Sabha regarding the NEET paper leak controversy, warning that continued disruptions would send a negative message across the nation. Despite the government’s call for discussion, the proceedings were adjourned for the fifth consecutive day as opposition members, led by the Congress party, maintained their demand for the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Addressing the lower house, Rijiju highlighted that the government had repeatedly engaged with opposition leadership to facilitate a structured debate on examination reforms and student concerns. He emphasized that with Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly promising stringent legislation against paper leaks alongside the creation of fast-track courts, the opposition should participate in parliamentary discussions without imposing pre-conditions.

Rijiju also noted that activist Sonam Wangchuk had concluded his 26-day hunger strike, clearing the way for constructive deliberation on the floor of the House. However, opposition parliamentarians continued chanting slogans demanding Pradhan’s resignation, preventing normal business and leading the Speaker to adjourn the Lok Sabha for the day.
