Not a single recruitment paper leak under present Congress government

Shimla: Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil and Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar have accused Union Minister J.P. Nadda of deliberately misleading the people of Himachal Pradesh through false and politically motivated statements.

In a joint statement issued today, the Ministers said that during the previous BJP regime, recruitment examination papers had virtually become commodities for sale with question papers allegedly being auctioned openly while the then Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur remained a silent spectator. The police recruitment examination was compromised and the Himachal Pradesh Staff Selection Commission became synonymous with large-scale recruitment scams, where examination papers were allegedly sold with impunity. Despite these grave irregularities, not a single key culprit was brought to justice during the BJP’s tenure.

They said that the previous BJP government played with the future of lakhs of unemployed youth by allowing recruitment scams to flourish and ensuring government jobs were cornered by its favourites instead of deserving candidates.

Dr. Shandil and Chander Kumar said that those involved in paper leak rackets were dealt with firmly and sent behind bars after the formation of Congress government, led by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. They said the present government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against corruption in recruitment and has acted decisively against those who cheated the youth of the state.

They further said that the Congress government is firmly committed to transparency, integrity and merit-based recruitment. To restore public confidence, the government dissolved the tainted HP Staff Selection Commission immediately after assuming office and constituted the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog. The recruitment examinations are now being conducted in a completely transparent manner and not a single recruitment paper has been leaked during the tenure of the present state government.

The Ministers said that J.P. Nadda’s attempt to rake up the issue of paper leaks in Himachal only serves to remind the people of the BJP government’s own failures and misdeeds, as no such incident has occurred under the present Congress government. They said making factually incorrect statements to mislead the public is both irresponsible and condemnable. They added that it was during the Jai Ram Thakur government’s tenure that recruitment paper leak scandals reached unprecedented levels, shattering the dreams of countless unemployed youth.

They also pointed out that under the BJP-led Central Government, several major competitive examination paper leak cases have surfaced across the country. The recent NEET examination controversy caused widespread anxiety among crores of students and their parents and Centre must be held accountable for such serious lapses.

Condemning the use of force against protesting youth in New Delhi, they alleged that the union government is attempting to suppress the democratic voice of young aspirants peacefully demonstrating at Jantar Mantar. They strongly criticized the brutal lathi-charge on the protesters and alleged that women participants were subjected to misconduct during the protest.
