New Delhi: Delhi Police registered a First Information Report on Thursday following a stone-pelting incident near Jantar Mantar that left two Assistant Commissioners of Police injured during ongoing demonstrations. The incident occurred on Wednesday night amid heightened tensions surrounding the Cockroach Janta Party protests over the NEET examination paper leak, prompting police authorities to launch a comprehensive investigation into the violence.
According to official medical statements from Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, ACP (Connaught Place) Vivek Bhagat was brought to the emergency department suffering from multiple bruises across his limbs and shoulder, as well as significant swelling in the parieto-occipital region of his head. The officer reported experiencing ear bleeding and post-traumatic vomiting following the attack. After an initial surgical evaluation and receiving necessary care, Bhagat was discharged at his own request to seek further specialized medical treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
During the same sequence of events, ACP (Punjabi Bagh) Jai Prakash also sustained forehead injuries from flying debris while performing law enforcement duties near the protest site. Prakash was similarly rushed to RML Hospital for emergency first aid. Following the clashes, Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order Zone-I) Devesh Chandra Srivastva personally visited the medical facility late Wednesday night to review the condition of the injured personnel, while police continue efforts to identify individuals responsible for the assault.
