New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) resumed its demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Tuesday, a day after dramatic clashes between protesters and police during the “Sansad Chalo” march. Despite the removal of protest infrastructure by authorities, supporters returned to the site early in the morning, declaring that the agitation would continue until their demands are addressed.
Large numbers of police personnel, along with Rapid Action Force (RAF) teams, remained deployed around Jantar Mantar to prevent any further escalation. Security arrangements were intensified after Monday’s violence, which left dozens of protesters and police personnel injured.
The confrontation erupted when thousands of students and activists marched towards Parliament, demanding accountability over the alleged NEET 2026 examination irregularities. According to police, protesters violated prohibitory orders and allegedly damaged public property, prompting the use of tear gas and baton charges to disperse the crowd. Authorities confirmed that several protesters were detained and a criminal case has been registered against unidentified individuals in connection with the unrest.
Protest organisers, however, accused the police of using disproportionate force against demonstrators. They claimed many students sustained injuries while participating in what they described as a peaceful march.
Amid the ongoing agitation, the Centre initiated dialogue with representatives of the Cockroach Janta Party. Union Health Minister JP Nadda met CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who submitted a memorandum outlining their key demands.
The delegation sought the unconditional release of activist Sonam Wangchuk, the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and financial compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of students who allegedly died by suicide following the NEET 2026 controversy.
Following the meeting, the CJP leadership said the Union Minister had agreed to convey their concerns to the appropriate authorities but had not offered any immediate assurances. The organisation reiterated that the protest would continue until concrete action is taken.
Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently undergoing treatment in a Delhi hospital, announced that he would continue his indefinite fast. In a handwritten message shared by his wife, Gitanjali Angmo, Wangchuk expressed solidarity with the protesting students and stated that he would not end his fast until youth representatives are allowed to meet Members of Parliament or parliamentarians visit him at the hospital.
With protesters regrouping at Jantar Mantar and security agencies maintaining a heavy presence, the standoff between demonstrators and authorities appears set to continue in the coming days.
