Ferozepur: A major food safety violation was uncovered in Ferozepur after authorities intercepted and destroyed nearly 4,000 litres of chemically contaminated milk bound for public supply. The large consignment, which was headed to the Verka Milkfed collection centre, was discovered during routine quality screening. Officials confirmed that the entire batch of adulterated milk had been mixed with a harmful chemical compound, identified as salt, rendering the stock highly unsafe for public consumption.

The tainted consignment, estimated to be worth over ₹2 lakh, was rejected on the spot by dairy officials. To eliminate any potential risk to public health, the authorities immediately disposed of the liquid into a sewage drain. General Manager of Verka Milkfed, Sujeet Singh, confirmed that the tanker failed the mandatory laboratory quality testing due to chemical adulteration. He stated that the department took swift preventative measures, terminated the contract of the supplier involved, and lodged a formal complaint with the local police to initiate strict legal proceedings against the responsible contractor.

The incident has also brought renewed scrutiny to ongoing logistical malpractices within the regional dairy supply chain. Authorities are investigating separate reports alleging that transport contractors have been tampering with the security seals of milk tankers en route from rural dairy farms, siphoning off pure milk before reaching the main processing units. The recent seizure has triggered widespread anxiety among local consumers and genuine dairy farmers, who are demanding a comprehensive investigation to ensure systemic accountability. Administrative officials have assured the public that stringent legal action will follow once the police investigation concludes.
