Uttarkashi: A swift rescue operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) ensured the safe evacuation of nearly 100 pilgrims after a landslide disrupted the Yamunotri route in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.

The incident occurred near Syanachatti, where heavy debris crashed onto the road, completely blocking traffic and leaving several pilgrims stranded on either side of the affected stretch.

Following the alert, SDRF teams from Barkot and Jankichatti were immediately mobilised to the location. The rescue operation was led by Head Constable Durgesh Ratudi from the Barkot Post and Head Constable Rajesh Kumar from the Jankichatti Post, who reached the site with the required rescue equipment.

With the road rendered impassable, SDRF personnel devised an alternative route for pedestrians by securing ropes across the damaged section. Rescue teams then carefully guided pilgrims across the landslide-hit area, ensuring each person crossed safely despite the challenging terrain.

Officials said the operation was carried out with strict safety measures in place, allowing around 100 stranded pilgrims to be escorted across the blocked stretch without any reported injuries.

The timely response by the SDRF helped restore movement for the affected pilgrims and prevented the situation from escalating further. Authorities continue to monitor the area as restoration work on the Yamunotri route progresses following the landslide.
