NIA Conducts Nationwide Raids Across Ten States to Bust Online Terror Network

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency has executed a massive coordinated operation across ten Indian states to dismantle a widespread online terror radicalization network. On Wednesday, investigative teams carried out simultaneous searches at twenty different locations as part of an ongoing probe into an illicit conspiracy focused on overthrowing the democratically elected government to forge an Islamic state via violent jihad. Officials believe the individuals involved in the network were aggressively spreading the extremist doctrines of outlawed groups such as the Islamic State and Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent.

The extensive raids targeted residential and commercial premises in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Delhi. During these sweeping searches, federal operatives seized numerous digital devices that are currently slated for rigorous forensic examination to uncover further details about the radicalization plot. This nationwide crackdown stems from detailed technical and connectivity analyses of electronic evidence previously confiscated from suspects. The gathered intelligence effectively directed the anti-terror agency to new geographical locations connected to the broader network of the arrested individuals and their hidden associates.

This high-profile case was initially registered by the local police in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, in March following a targeted raid at the residence of a primary suspect, Rehmatullah Sharif Mohammad. That initial search yielded severe incriminating materials linked to the proscribed terror outfits. Recognizing the gravity and national security implications of the conspiracy, the National Investigation Agency formally took over the investigation in May. So far, the federal probe has resulted in the apprehension of eleven adult suspects and one juvenile. Investigators have discovered that these individuals were collaborating with foreign handlers online to spread misinformation, disseminate violent content, and indoctrinate vulnerable youth across the country in a coordinated effort to destabilize the nation and establish a so-called caliphate.
