Pune: A three-storey administrative building at the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s Waste-to-Energy plant in Moshi, Pune, collapsed on Wednesday afternoon amid torrential rainfall. Preliminary reports indicate that continuous heavy rain loosened a massive mound of legacy waste adjacent to the facility, causing it to slide and crash into the structure. Authorities fear that approximately 15 to 16 employees who were inside the building at the time of the collapse are currently trapped beneath the debris.

Following the incident, which occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m., emergency services launched a massive and immediate response. Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force and the local fire brigade were swiftly dispatched to the scene to assist in the intensive search and rescue efforts. Emergency medical crews remain on high alert as rescue teams carefully navigate the treacherous rubble in an endeavour to locate and safely extract the trapped workers.

A senior fire brigade official confirmed that rescue teams are working tirelessly at the site, though it remains too early to verify the exact number of individuals trapped or to confirm any fatalities. The destroyed structure functioned as the administrative centre for the civic body’s waste processing project. Authorities are continuing to monitor the precarious situation, coordinating ongoing rescue operations despite the severely challenging weather conditions.
