Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is expected to witness another spell of widespread rainfall over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning that wet weather is likely to persist across the state until July 11. Authorities have urged residents and tourists to remain cautious as heavy showers could trigger landslides, flash floods, and disruptions in vulnerable areas.
The weather department has issued an Orange Alert for heavy rainfall in parts of the state over the next two days. Districts including Una, Kangra, and Sirmaur are likely to experience intense rainfall on Monday, while Kangra, Solan, and Sirmaur remain under Orange Alert for Tuesday. A Yellow Alert has also been sounded for several other districts, including Chamba, Mandi, Shimla, and Kullu, where moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected.
Officials said the monsoon has remained stronger than usual this season. Since its arrival, Himachal Pradesh has recorded rainfall well above the seasonal average, with precipitation reportedly 63 per cent higher than normal, increasing the risk of weather-related incidents across hilly terrain.
The IMD has advised people to avoid travelling near rivers, streams, and landslide-prone stretches during periods of heavy rainfall. Tourists planning to visit high-altitude destinations have also been asked to stay updated on local weather advisories before undertaking journeys.
Apart from rainfall, strong winds with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph are expected in the tribal districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti over the next few days. Lightning activity is also likely across many parts of the state.
Weather officials have indicated that daytime temperatures, which rose sharply over the weekend in several locations, are expected to decline as rain activity intensifies. Several towns, including Shimla, Bhuntar, and Seobagh, had recorded a noticeable increase in maximum temperatures before the latest weather system became active.
Disaster management authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have appealed to residents to follow official advisories, especially in areas susceptible to landslides and flooding. Rescue teams and local administrations have also been asked to remain on alert in anticipation of heavy rainfall during the week.
