Kejriwal Inspects Flood-Hit Areas in Delhi, Urges Centre and Govt to Act Swiftly

New Delhi – Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday visited flood-affected areas in Shastri Park, where he interacted with residents and inspected the conditions in relief camps.

Kejriwal said people were struggling with delayed food supplies, unsafe drinking water, and mosquito infestation, while tents for shelter had only been set up a day earlier despite continuous rainfall. He stressed that the government must take responsibility and ensure all essential facilities are provided in camps.

He blamed the waterlogging across Delhi on poor desilting and uncleared drains, which he said had led to sewage backflow in several localities. “We understand this is a natural calamity, but arrangements for relief fall squarely on the government’s shoulders,” Kejriwal remarked.

The former Delhi CM also appealed to the Union Government to extend support, pointing out that large parts of North India—including Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir—remain devastated by floods. “The Centre sent aid to Afghanistan after the earthquake, which was good, but it must also provide relief to affected states at home,” he said.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has caused the Yamuna to rise above danger levels. At the Signature Bridge, the river was recorded above 205.33 metres early Friday, prompting evacuations from low-lying areas. Thousands of families in Delhi and Noida have been moved to relief camps, including those near Mayur Vihar Phase-1.

The IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies in Noida for the next two days, with chances of rain or thunderstorms from September 7 to 10. Authorities continue to monitor the Yamuna’s levels closely as preventive measures remain in place.
