Amritsar: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a major cross-border illegal weapon smuggling racket during a targeted enforcement operation. Law enforcement authorities arrested four suspects and recovered 10 sophisticated, modern pistols alongside nine live cartridges from their possession. Preliminary investigations reveal that the arrested operatives were working under the direct instructions of an overseas-based smuggler, managing logistics for illicit weapon consignments smuggled across the international border.
The criminal network focused on receiving illegally trafficked weapons and distributing them to various active anti-social elements and criminal gangs across the state. Following the successful breakthrough, police authorities registered separate First Information Reports at the Chheharta and Maqboolpura police stations. Investigating teams are carrying out an extensive deeper probe into the operational finances and communication channels used by the group to uncover the exact routing of the smuggled contraband.
Senior police officials indicated that further arrests are highly anticipated as the investigation uncovers more links within the supply chain. Law enforcement agencies are actively working to establish the identity of the foreign handler and map out their entire network of local contacts. The ongoing security crackdown aims to neutralize all domestic modules associated with this network, with officials expressing confidence that additional disclosures regarding safe houses and logistics partners will emerge in the coming days.
