BJP Keeps Options Open on Future Tie-Up with Akali Parties, Says Nitin Nabin

Jalandhar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not ruled out the possibility of joining hands with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) or any other Akali faction in Punjab, but a decision on any potential alliance will be taken only after reviewing the political situation in the coming months, BJP leader Nitin Nabin has said.

Speaking at a media interaction during his recent visit to Jalandhar, Nabin emphasized that the party’s immediate priority is to expand and strengthen its organisational base across Punjab rather than focus on electoral partnerships.

According to Nabin, the BJP is currently concentrating on building its presence in every Assembly constituency of the state. He noted that discussions regarding alliances are premature at this stage and would be considered only when the political environment becomes clearer.

“The party is focused on strengthening itself and reaching out to people across Punjab. As elections draw nearer, we will assess the situation and take a call accordingly,” he said.

Nabin clarified that the BJP has neither committed to nor rejected the idea of an alliance. Instead, the party intends to evaluate public response and political developments before making any decision.

For the next six months, he said, the BJP will pursue its own strategy under the leadership of the newly appointed state president. During this period, the party plans to actively raise local issues and increase engagement with voters across different regions of Punjab.

“We want to move ahead on the strength of our own organisation. The feedback we receive from the public over the coming months will play an important role in shaping future decisions,” Nabin stated.

His remarks suggest that while the BJP is currently charting an independent course in Punjab, the possibility of a future understanding with the Akali leadership remains open. Any decision on electoral cooperation, he indicated, will be based on political realities closer to the election period.

The statement is being viewed as a sign that the door to a BJP-Akali partnership has not been completely shut, despite the party’s present focus on consolidating its own position in the state.
