Chandigarh – Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will visit Punjab on Thursday to review the damage caused by the state’s worst floods since 1988 and assess the needs of affected farmers.

Chouhan confirmed his visit on Wednesday, saying he would arrive in Punjab on September 4. He will be accompanied by Union Minister of State for Railways and Rajya Sabha MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, along with BJP state president Sunil Jakhar.

Ahead of his visit, the minister held discussions with Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to gather details on the devastation triggered by relentless rainfall.

“Today, I discussed the flood situation arising due to heavy rainfall in Punjab with the Governor of Punjab, Chief Minister, and Agriculture Minister and obtained detailed information. I will reach Punjab tomorrow morning and meet my brothers and sisters in the flood-affected areas. In this hour of crisis, the Central Government stands firmly with the brothers and sisters of Punjab and will provide all possible assistance,” Chouhan said.

Punjab continues to grapple with widespread flooding, with vast tracts of farmland submerged, homes damaged, and thousands displaced. Authorities have described the situation as the most severe since the 1988 floods.
