Noida: A new chapter in Uttar Pradesh’s aviation landscape began on Monday as commercial flight services officially started from Noida International Airport in Jewar. The inaugural scheduled service, operated by IndiGo, arrived from Lucknow before continuing its journey to Bengaluru, marking the airport’s entry into regular passenger operations.

The first flight, numbered 6E-2278, touched down from Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport and later departed for Bengaluru, symbolising the launch of a major infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity across northern India.

Passengers using the airport on its opening day expressed enthusiasm over the convenience it offers, highlighting the reduced travel time compared to Delhi’s airports. Many said the new facility eliminates the need to navigate heavy traffic and long road journeys before catching a flight.

A traveller heading to Bengaluru described the experience as smooth and efficient, noting that reaching the airport was far easier than travelling to the national capital’s aviation hubs. Several passengers also praised the airport’s modern infrastructure and passenger-friendly facilities.

The airport’s inauguration has also generated optimism among local residents, especially farmers whose land was acquired for the project. Many believe the development will create long-term employment opportunities and contribute significantly to the region’s economic progress.

Calling themselves partners in the state’s growth story, several farmers said they view the airport as an investment in the future that will benefit younger generations through improved business prospects and job creation.

To commemorate the launch, nearly 170 farmers from the Jewar area, including around 20 women who voluntarily contributed land for the project, are scheduled to travel to Lucknow on a special inaugural flight. The delegation, accompanied by Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh, is expected to meet Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and express gratitude for the state’s infrastructure initiatives and the successful completion of the airport.

With commercial services now underway, Noida International Airport is expected to emerge as a major transportation hub, strengthening regional connectivity, easing passenger movement across western Uttar Pradesh, and supporting future industrial and economic expansion in the region.
