Kolkata: Amid the ongoing political crisis within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), actor-turned-politician and Asansol MP Shatrughan Sinha has firmly expressed his support for party chief Mamata Banerjee, stating that he will not leave her side during challenging times.
In an exclusive interaction with PTI, Sinha said his loyalty to Mamata Banerjee stems from the support she extended to him when he was facing a difficult phase in his political career. He recalled that Banerjee stood by him after his electoral setback in Patna and emphasized that he believes in returning that support when she needs it.
The veteran politician acknowledged that several leaders may have chosen to distance themselves from the TMC due to political pressures, fears, or personal ambitions. However, he maintained that abandoning the party leadership during a crisis would go against his principles.
Sinha also described Mamata Banerjee as a resilient and determined leader, noting that despite recent setbacks, she continues to enjoy significant public support in West Bengal. Referring to the party’s electoral performance, he said Banerjee remains a formidable political force with a substantial vote base in the state.
The Asansol MP revealed that he had received invitations to align with the rebel faction within the TMC. However, he made it clear that he has no intention of switching sides and remains committed to the party and its leadership.
His statement comes at a time when the TMC is facing one of the most serious internal challenges in its history, with several leaders and legislators distancing themselves from the party leadership and joining the rebel camp.
