Amritsar:In a gesture reflecting faith and cultural unity, a specially crafted golden fibre Palki Sahib was dispatched from India to Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib in Pakistan through the Attari-Wagah Integrated Check Post. The palanquin is intended for installation at the revered shrine, the birthplace of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, where it will serve thousands of devotees visiting the historic gurdwara.
The initiative was undertaken by Baba Gurdev Singh Kulli Wale, who arranged for the preparation of the Palki under the spiritual guidance of Baba Darshan Singh Kulli Wale. The project was initiated following a request from Bhai Mahesh Singh of Pakistan’s Sindh province, who sought the installation of the sacred structure at Sri Nankana Sahib.
Officials from the Indian Customs Department and the Border Security Force completed all necessary formalities before the consignment crossed into Pakistan. The ceremonial handover was coordinated at the Integrated Check Post, where customs authorities facilitated its transfer to their counterparts across the border.
Representatives of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) stated that the Palki Sahib would be received by associates of Bhai Mahesh Singh and community representatives from Pakistan before being taken to Nankana Sahib for installation.
The movement of the sacred palanquin has been welcomed by members of the Sikh community on both sides of the border, who view it as a meaningful expression of devotion and a reminder of the spiritual bond that transcends geographical boundaries.
Religious leaders have described the initiative as an embodiment of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s message of universal brotherhood, compassion and selfless service. They expressed hope that such gestures would continue to strengthen cultural and religious connections while preserving the shared heritage associated with Sikhism’s holiest sites.
