Chandigarh/Jalandhar, June 10: In a major step towards citizen-friendly and technology-driven policing, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday launched the upgraded SAANJH Citizen Portal at the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Academy in Phillaur.

On the occasion, the DGP also flagged off a fleet of 93 electric scooters for women police personnel working with Punjab Police Mahila Mitra and Women Help Desks to improve mobility and strengthen public service delivery across the state.

SAANJH Portal Gets 14 New Citizen-Friendly Features

The upgraded portal, saanjh.punjabpolice.gov.in, introduces 14 new features aimed at making police services faster, easier and more transparent for citizens.

Key features include Aadhaar-enabled eKYC for police verification services, QR code-based authenticated certificates, digital payment receipts, an improved missing mobile phone reporting system, a paperless tenant verification process with dual-address verification, dedicated services for senior citizens and a citizen feedback system for Passport Verification Officers.

Punjab Police officials said that more than 90,000 citizen responses have already been recorded through the feedback system since February 2025.

Technology-Driven and Citizen-Centric Policing

Speaking on the occasion, DGP Gaurav Yadav said the new SAANJH Portal combines technology, governance reforms and citizen-first services. He said the platform will reduce the need for physical visits to police offices, eliminate middlemen and provide verified police services directly to citizens online.

The portal has also been integrated with the National Digital Police Repository for services related to vehicle NOCs and missing persons records. A new unified Police Verification App supporting multiple services has also been introduced.

Reaffirming Punjab Police’s commitment to community policing, the DGP highlighted initiatives such as Yuva Saanjh, Student Police Cadet Scheme, Jagriti, Women Help Desks and Saanjh Rahat Kendras.

He said Punjab Police remains committed to its guiding principle, “Haq Tuhada, Farz Saada” (Your Right, Our Duty).

New SAANJH Mascots Introduced

During the event, Punjab Police also unveiled two new SAANJH mascots — Shera and Shakti. The mascots have been designed to make police outreach programmes more interactive, engaging and community-friendly.

Several senior officials attended the event, including Commissioner of Police Jalandhar Dhanpreet Kaur, Commissioner of Police Ludhiana Swapan Sharma, DIG Jalandhar Range Naveen Singla, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varjeet Walia, SSP Jalandhar Rural Harvinder Singh Virk, SSP SBS Nagar Tushar Gupta and SSP Ludhiana Rural Ankur Gupta.
