Chandigarh: The strike by employees of Punjab’s Sewa Kendras was called off on Tuesday following a key meeting between representatives of the employees’ union and Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora.
According to sources, the meeting saw positive discussions regarding the demands raised by the union. After the talks, the employees agreed to withdraw their agitation and resume work across Sewa Kendras in the state.
The decision brings relief to thousands of citizens who depend on Sewa Kendras for a range of government services, including certificates, licenses, documentation, and other public service-related applications.
The strike had affected the functioning of several centres, causing inconvenience to people seeking time-sensitive government services. With employees returning to work, normal operations are expected to resume at Sewa Kendras across Punjab.
Officials indicated that the discussions between the government and employee representatives were constructive, paving the way for a resolution of the dispute. However, details of the assurances given by the government and the specific demands discussed during the meeting have not yet been officially disclosed.
The end of the strike is expected to restore the delivery of citizen services and reduce the backlog of pending applications that accumulated during the agitation.
