Chandigarh: Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has achieved a major breakthrough in the sensational murder case of prominent Ferozepur businessman Gurcharan Singh Gaba by arresting two key shooters involved in the crime.
The arrests were made during a highly coordinated joint operation conducted by the AGTF, Ferozepur Police and Jammu & Kashmir Police. Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) shared details of the operation through his official social media handle, describing it as a significant success in the state’s ongoing crackdown on gangsters and organised crime.
According to police officials, AGTF teams had been continuously tracking the suspects since the murder of Gurcharan Singh Gaba in Makhu. During the investigation, authorities received intelligence that the accused had fled Punjab after committing the crime and were hiding in Jammu and Kashmir.
Acting on the information, Punjab Police coordinated with local police units in Jammu and Kashmir, laid a trap and successfully apprehended both suspects. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the two arrested shooters are residents of Rajasthan.
During the operation, police recovered a foreign-made Beretta .30 bore pistol along with 10 live cartridges from the accused. Investigators are now trying to determine how the suspects obtained the sophisticated weapon and whether it is linked to a larger criminal network.
Police sources said the arrested men are not first-time offenders and have a long criminal history. Several cases, including extortion, robbery, dacoity, theft and violations of the Arms Act, are reportedly registered against them in Rajasthan and other states.
The seriousness of their criminal background is reflected in the fact that Rajasthan Police had announced a reward of ₹10,000 on each of the accused for their arrest.
Authorities are continuing to interrogate the suspects to uncover the broader conspiracy behind the murder and identify any associates who may have helped them evade arrest after the crime.
